I'm lashing from home, which is very slow going. So I decided to cold call different salons in my area to offer my services to their clients on a per diem basis. Go in on weekends or whatever and lash a few ladies. I'm getting alot of positive responses so should I take all the offers I get or just pick the best salon and make it my primary location?

When I first started out, I was also doing lashes from home and it was very sslllooowwwwwwww.
So, I started freelancing at 2 salons.
I dedicated 2 days at one salon and 2 days at another.
Its not like I sat in the salon and just waited for clients. I only went in when I had appointments booked. I gave them 25% of what I made and I got heaps of clients. They even let me have a signwritter paint a special offer on the front window to draw in the crowds. Soon after, I had to cut it back to only 2 days & 1 night a week due to work commitments with Lash Out!. I still have many of the regular clients that followed me to the place I operate from now.

Once you start getting booked out, you might want to consider a set daily rent for the days you are there. Its definately a step up from working at home...go for it! - you won't regret it.

Thanks Tami -
Did the clients pay you directly or did the salons handle the payments and cut you a check at the end of the week? Right now I only accept cash but I suppose that will have to change if I'm in a business.

It got too complicated working out the tax and the interest rate for Credit card transactions that the salon would pay. I ended up (and still continue) getting myself a lockable small cash tin that I bring into work with me every time I go in. All my regular clients know I only accept cash.

If they didn't get a chance to get some Cash before they come, they usually drop it off to me after they've gone the ATM to make a withdrawal within a few hours.

Everytime I get a client booking for a full set, I tell them that I do not have EFTPOS facilities on the premises and I only accept CASH. This makes sure they bring enough cash with them. You only have to tell them once. After they come back for a fill, they always bring Cash.

Also, I make all my own appointments.
When the salon gets an enquiry, they call me and tell me the clients name and number and I then call them back. This way I can tell them Exactly what I do in my services.

My opening offer got me heaps of regulars.
I offered a full set for $99 and allowed 1 1/2 hours for each client. I got heaps of full-sets booking in from the window sign (in hot pink). Then when the sign came down and the full sets went up to $180, I had heaps of regulars to keep me busy between doing full-sets. Then as my reputation grew, so did the demand. I'm now booked out 3 weeks in advance these days and I'm having to stop taking any more new clients.

Be ready to get some serious Lash Addicts.
Your going to be busy !!!

i started at home also. found it was too much trouble and plus i had people come to my door because they would forget the phone number, awkward when your relaxin in your oldest most spotted night gown

i am still not booked too too far in advance, better then ever before, but i think there is a lot of ee to choose from in our area. tons of salons that offer it and even salons dedicated to only lashes. so the competition is thick. it is for skin care, botox, laser you get the point. where i live there is a lot of people with money and a lot of business trying to get there business.
