I know we covered where everyone's from. I would like to know of all the states we represent, which of the states are EE Regulated. I will start.

VA-Regulated under Basic Esthetics Lic.
MD-Not Regulated
DC-Not Regulated

depends on who you ask here.

ask the state board they say yes

ask an owner check out the story about the owner who got fined and fought it and won because it says nothing about ee in the state board laws

as a licensed person, i dont want to take a risk

My question is this... How come girls at mac and at the makeup counters can put lashes on people and I have people coming to me with those horrible lashes that they get at some place at the mall. the lashes are little squares of lashes with blunt ends and they are all the same length. They put heeps of glue on them and one client told me a horror story about how they "soak them off" and it got in her eye and she had red eyes for a month!!!!!!

I am an aesthetician so I don't have to worry but I just can't figure out how the laws work here in VA!!! Oh and they do not teach extensions like we do extensions in the schools! I learned how to do them with cluster lashes girls sitting up and eyes open! (That was actually was a Baltimore School) but I hear they are teaching it the same way here or not at all. ;-/

I personally think EE should be in a league of it's own. I also think you need more training and maybe even an aprenticeship that's kind of what I did!

I am in Florida and the laws are soooo vague.

Basically, the Mac counter girls can get away with putting lashes on because they are "Demonstrating a product for sale"

Esthetics is not under the Dept of Health, but the Dept of Business Professionals and Regulations which also houses construction licenses, liquor licenses, ect. When you call the Dept it goes to a general call center rep that answers questions for all boards. So everyime you call, you get a different answer.

The esthetics laws are less than a paragraph and say nothing about lash perming, lash tinting, or EE.

It is exhausting!!!

Hi Lashsavvy,

I too am in Florida. While the DBPR here doesn't regulate eyelash extensions they have ruled on the fact that ONLY licensed cosmotologists, estheticians, and full specialists may perform EE extensions. This happened in the latter part of 2006. Apparently Regal Nails wanted permission to do EE's and they were voted down. Now...no offense to anyone out there..but could you just imagine going by your local Walmart Nail (MMA USING) Salon and hanging out in a pedicure chair to recieve EE's? YIKES!

This whole topic has been a major thorn in my side. I was certified to do EEs in New Hampshire under my nursing license but can't actually do EEs in salons in New Hampshire. HUH?? I am just over the border from Massachusetts, and they don't have any problem with me lashing under my nursing license so I do free lance there. However, one salon asked me to get a business license but when I called the town hall (thanks for the info Jill) nobody knew what to do with me. It's all very confusing. It seems if I really want a career in this field I am going to have to go to esthetician school, which seems way more of an expense than it's worth.

In California you must hold an estheician's or cosmetologist's license to perform lash extensions. Nail technicians may not.

In NY only esty's and cosmotology license holders may apply lash extensions. RN's can as well but we are governed by the board of nursing and not the board of cosmetology. In NY, RN's can do them but not LPN's. I will be obtaining my esty license anyway since it will just make things easier when I open up a lash shop one day :-)
