Can someone help me? I had a client that had lipliner done 7 years ago. I just did a touch up on her. She did not have a reaction to anything and healed fine. A month later she is now telling me that when she opens her mouth as wide as she can that her lips hurt where the lipliner was touched up. Can anyone tell me what it could be and if there is anything I can do for her? I would think it would be that her lips are dry and chaped. Not really sure what's going on there. Thank you for your help.

well my mind must be in the gutter. LOL. my smart-### would suggest "close your mouth". LOL ok, seriously. injury to skin, whether intentional or accidental results in the same cell response. even a controlled wound, such as a tattoo behaves in such a was as to heal itself as quickly as possible. The inflammation phase becomes the proliferation phase and finally the maturation phase. at one month, she may still be in proliferation, or has progressed into maturation phase. A freshly healed wound will show 'contracture' for some time. Thermal wounds contract more than other wounds, but all still contract. Unless something else is at play, my long distance sight unseen assessment of her situation, (i must say i'm still chuckling) is that she is experiencing some skin contracture on TOP of very dry lips. Lips may tend to be dry for some months after tattooing, there are no sebaceous glands in lip skin so they cannot lubricate themselves. this is my opinion, i am not making a diagnosis, i am not a doctor, i am experienced with skin and its characteristics and i find studying wound control fascinating. this is an opinion only. I'm in the gutter with you Liza. LMAO! One must ask how often does one open their mouth to that extent. I`m sitting here opening my mouth as far as it will go and by gum I`m experiencing a bit of pain. I think as Liza stated that there may be some dryness and it is not unreasonable to experience some tightness and an unatural feeling for a couple of months. I don`t think it`s anything to lose sleep over.

Well, my husband has this same problem, but it not from lipliner..it from jackin his jaws... He starts at the yackie stage and moves are on to yackie quackie, and does not stop at until he reaches what we like to call YACKIMUS QUACKAMUS! But, to better understand the question here I did shove my closed fist in my mouth..and yes it hurt did like hell. As Always Deborah

C.C.P.M. Let me add that when I describe to my clients how they’re going to feel post-procedure, I do tell them they are going to feel like they shouldn’t smile extremely big, but in reality they can. Liza I think hit the nail on the head when she said, “skin contracture”, that would be my guess as well. I bet her lips are dry too. None of us with dry lips want to open our mouths stretched huge (thanks Brandy) regardless of a recent lip procedure. It’s like when an eyeliner client thinks they’re loosing more lashes post-procedure. When in reality they’re finally paying attention. She probably never opens up her mouth that big, or has not kept her lips sufficiently moisturized.
